A very comfortable homestay experience
The location is very convenient, the room is large, and the common areas are also beautiful and spacious. The owner even drives us to the scenic spots~ The only thing is there's a slight woody smell in the room, which might be a common issue with old rooms~ Overall, I will come back to Izu next time.

It's been a great trip.
Very, very recommended, boss is nice, will help with luggage, and there is also a transfer service, thought it would be difficult to traffic but actually no such worries! If you go again, you'll definitely keep booking!

I was worried because I missed my train and was stranded in the area. I booked and got to the hotel after 10pm but the staff were welcoming and understanding. I really appreciated them! Slept very well!

Good, but not excellent
I chose Hinodeya as I wanted a place close to Izukogen station. It's a 10 minute uphill walk from the station and is located on the main road through town. Taxi fare from the station was reasonable. You can make advance arrangements for a ride to the zoo or Mt. Omuro and use the public bus back down. Do not attempt to walk up there as parts of the road have no room for pedestrians. Hinodeya is a modestly priced traditional ryokan inn, but it's not in a historic building more of a 1960s decor) and It isn't luxurious. The staff are friendly and helpful but have limited English. Optional meals are served in a large room with low tables and a set menu. Sleeping rooms do not have ensuite facilities. There are shared toilet facilities upstairs with squat style toilets and Western style toilets on the ground floor. Shower and hot spring bath are by advance reservation. The hotspring water was too hot for me to use at all, but the shower temperature was adjustable. Rooms are traditional tatami mats and you must take off your shoes as soon as you go through the front entrance. Bedding is low to the ground and I found it less than comfortable. All this said, I was pleased with my stay.
